The 'Moonlight' Legend

Driven by a passion to create a world-class quality Thai liquor, Mr. Chula Kanchanakaksha, who is widely acknowledged as Thailand's best master blender for his unique ability to balance both the art and science of spirit blending, created "SangSom" in 1977. An exclusive ageing process in oak casks and the use of fine Thai herbs as key ingredients have been the secret of the distinctively 'Thai' taste of SangSom that is loved the world over.

The name "SangSom" means "moonlight" in Thai, and it perfectly captures a smooth drinking pleasure under the gentle ambience of the moon.

    "SangSom" is a special 40-degree rum highly regarded for its distinctive taste and characteristics. Years of an exclusive ageing process in oak casks together with the use of finely selected Thai herbs as key ingredients combine to ensure a distinctly mellow flavour and aromatic sensation that is appreciated by rum lovers both in Thailand and beyond.

    The satisfyingly gentle taste of SangSom is derived from a unique production process, resulting in a fine liquor that has been distilled and aged for years in genuine oak casks. After distilling, it is blended with a special concentrate of finely selected herbs and spices and the best quality alcohol to give SangSom its distinctive taste and aroma.
  • SangSom Gold Medals

    The distinctive taste of SangSom and its world-class production quality were recognized and awarded with Gold Awards for taste in Madrid (1982), Dusseldorf (1983) and Madrid again in 2006. With these gold medals proudly displayed on each SangSom label, the brand is now widely known among consumers as "SangSom Rianthong", meaning SangSom Gold Medals.

The world-famous "SangSom Bucket"

The complex taste and aroma of SangSom results in a unique combination with mixers and fresh juices, making it the classic base for any cocktail or blended beverage. The "SangSom Bucket" was a fun way of serving SangSom which is believed to be first invented at a Full Moon Party in Ko Pha Ngan, Surat Thani province, when SangSom was combined with a mixer in a small bucket with ice, complete with a straw for each drinker - a lovely, friendly and fun way to share the taste of SangSom!
